Abstract

Abstract Introduction: Breast cancer is the most common cancer of women world wide and usually presents as palpable lump in the breast. US and FNAC are two noninvasive investigation tools often used to differentiate malignant breast lumps from benign one. Aims and objectives: To find out important US features in diagnosis of breast lumps and with comparison with FNAC in patients who presented with n palpable breast lumps and undergone US and FNAC examinations in SPHMMC. Methods: conducted retrospectively on 38 patients who had presented with palpable breast lump and had US and FNAC. Result: Out of the 39 cases, 27 cases (69.2%) were valid and 12 cases (30.8%) were missing. speculation has a 100% predictive value showing all cases with speculation were found to be malignant. Acoustic shadowing has the least positive predictive value in our study. Combining US features in diagnosing breast lumps in our study of the valid 27 cases 18 % (5) were found to be malignant with FNAC also. And 74 %( 20) were benign. 7% (2) cases were diagnosed as normal. The positive predictive and negative predictive values were found to be 97.06% and 88.89%, respectively.
