dc.description.abstractSUMMMARY INTRODUCTION; Burnout is an established phenomenon across cultures and occupations .It is a psychological syndrome that involves a prolonged response to chronic emotional and interpersonal stressors on the job. It is a common problem among healthcare professionals, especially those at the frontline of care. The quality of healthcare service is strongly affected by the health professionals’ levels of burnout at work. Although burnout and resilience are indicators used to assess the level of workplace hardship, there is a dearth of information in most developing countries, including Ethiopia OBJECTIVE: To assess the levels of burnout and associated factors among health professionals who work in the Emergency departments in selected Hospitals in Addis Ababa. METHOD: A cross-sectional study design was applied among health professionals employed in Emergency departments selected Hospitals in Addis Ababa. A structured self administered English version questionnaire, consisting of validated scales to measure Burnout was used to collect the data 22 items of Maslach burnout inventory human service survey tool was employed to assess the health professionals’ burnout level. Descriptive statistics like frequencies and cross tabulation was made for most selected variables. Linear logistics regression was employed for inferential statistical analysis to assess level of burn out. CONCLUSION: In this study from a total of 212 participants 152(71.70%) experienced high levels of burnout. the high prevalence of burnout among emergency department healthcare workers in Addis Ababa is consistent with regional and global trends in low-resource settings. Factors such as long working hours and poor social support are key contributors to burnout. RECOMMENDATION: Strong social support should be encouraged among health professionals working in the health setting for the improvement of health care services.
