Abstract
Abstract
Background: Evidence based nursing practice (EBNP) is clinical decision-making process
through the integration of the best research evidence considering the patient values and the
clinical experts’. The use of research evidence in clinical practice remains a challenge.
Objectives: The aim of this study is to assess nurse’s perception towards the implementation of
EBNP and associated factors in public hospitals in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 2023.
Methods: A hospital- based cross-sectional study design was employed to conduct this study. A
total of 524 nurses were randomly selected using simple random sampling technique. A
structured self-administered questionnaire was used for data collection. The data was coded and
entered into Epi Info Version 7.2.50 and exported into SPSS Version 26 software for further
analysis. Univariate analysis (frequencies, percentage and mean) was done and the results were
presented using texts narration, tables and graphs. To see the presence of associations between
variables, Binary logistic regression followed by multivariable logistic regression was conducted.
Results: The organizational factors like supportive administration and having access to
published research articles in working area were other factors which shows a statistically
significant association with nursing perception towards EBNP. Being knowledgeable and having
positive attitude, have 3.51 (AOR = 3.51, 95% CI: 2.33-5.29), 2.90 (AOR = 2.90, 95% CI: 1.94,
4.35) times more likely to have a good perception towards the implementation of EBNP,
respectively. Those hospitals with supportive administration and nurses having access to
published articles in working area have 1.54 (AOR = 1.54, 95% CI: 1.00-2.36) and 1.51 (AOR =
1.51, 95% CI: 1.01-2.26) times more likely to have a good perception towards EBP. However,
those nurses working in Rasdesta and Yekatit 12 were 31.2 % (AOR = 0.31, 95% CI: 0.16-0.59)
and 43.6% (AOR = 0.44, 95% CI: 0.23-0.83) less likely to have a good perception towards
EBNP as compared with St. Paul Millenium medical college.
Concussion: The knowledge level, attitude, supportive administration, access to published
research articles in working area were positively associated with nurse’s perception towards
EBNP whereas the hospital the nurses work was negatively associated with nurse’s perception
towards EBNP.
