Introduction Childhood immunization is a critical component of global health, providing
protection against vaccine-preventable diseases such as measles, polio, and pneumococcal disease.
Despite the availability of safe and effective vaccines, many children remain unvaccinated, leading
to significant morbidity and mortality.
Objectives: To assess the magnitude and associated factors for missed opportunity of routine
immunization service in those less than 02 years of age
Methods and Materials: The study is health facility based cross sectional design. interview was
administered for mothers who had under two year old child and who came for any services for
their children at sphmmc and two selected health centers from Sept - Nov , 2023 using standard
WHO missed opportunity tool.
Result: A total of 288 children were included in this study and equal fifty percent of cases selected
from the health centres and hospitals. Majority (56.3%) of the children were in the age of ≤12
months and 94.4% were delivered at the health facility. Fifty-three percent of the children were
male and 87.5% of the children visited the institution with their mothers. Ninety-five percent of
the children’s mother had antenatal follow up and 87.5% of the mother had married and 42.7% of
the participants were orthodox in religion. The finding of the study revealed that 27% of the study
participants had a missed vaccination. The finding of the study shows in each type of vaccination,
more than 90% of children took the vaccination in need of their age. But the less than 90% of
vaccination coverage were seen in measles vaccination.
Conclusion: In this study the magnitude of missed immunization were high. Measles 2,Measles
1,BCG and OPV 0 were the most missed vaccines while the major reason for missing this
vaccines were mother to busy followed by problem in the area so they couldn’t came for
vaccination. On the other hand mother not had ANC, parental education level of illiterate and
primary level, having taxi mode of transportation , not feel to know the vaccine their children need
and not satisfied with the service provided had statically significant association with MOV.
