dc.description.abstractPreface Ethiopian Field Epidemiology Training Program (EFETP) is in-service training program in field epidemiology developed on the mode of the United State Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS). These programs are designed to assist Ethiopian Ministry of Health in strengthening on-the-job mentorship and training. I stayed from October 2015 to March 2018 in St. Paul‘s Hospital Millennium Medical College, Department of Public Health- Field Epidemiology Training Program and at Amhara Public Health Institute (APHI), Bahir Dar field base. This compiled body of works contains many outputs which all of them were done during the residency time of the program. The body of works is categorized in to seven chapters. Each chapter is mentioned as follows: The first chapter contains outbreak investigations: outbreak investigations were conducted; the investigated outbreak was pertussis in Bahir Amba kebele Janamora district, North Gondar zone, Amhara from April, 22-May10, 2017. The second chapter is measles surveillance data analysis of Amhara region 2003-2006 EC, Ethiopia. Five year measles data has been analyzed. The third chapter, evaluation of malaria, typhoid fever and sever acute malnutrition surveillance system in Kombolcha town, South Wollo zone of Amhara region. The third chapter is description of Health profile of Jabi tehnan district in West Gojjam zone of Amhara region. The fourth is woreda health profile description assessment, Jabi tehnan woreda, west Gojjam zone Amhara region, Ethiopia, 2007 EC. The assessment was conducted from 15 May–June 15, 2008 EC. The fifth chapter is developing standard operating procedure for two laboratory test namely H. pylori and Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) from 01-April-15, 2017, Nefas Mewucha Hospital, south Gondar zone, Amhara, 2017. The sixth chapter is preparing laboratory quality manual from April 01.-15, 2017, Nefas Mewucha Hospital, south Gondar zone, Amhara, 2017. The seventh chapter is research thesis done on seroprevalence of syphilis and associated factors among pregnant women attending antenatal clinic in gambella hospital, gambella, Ethiopia. The study was conducted from November to December 2017. Different trainings and conferences of public health have been conducted in different places at different times, to mention some of these, PHEM training in Bahir dar, Surveillance training in Kombolcha and conferences like 1st Ethiopian Field Epidemiology training Programme annual scientific conference held at EPHI in Addis Ababa, I was participated as a trainer and participant in those mention above and others. Meanwhile, since the program‘s philosophy is learning by doing, numerous activities were carried out at the field base, which greatly contributed to strengthen the public health workforce capacity through training, conducting disease surveillance and emergency planning, preparedness and response activities.
