Abstract
ABSTRACT
Background: Pain is a profound and complex experience, it can be physical and emotional,
solely a sensory reaction to tissue damage. It remains a leading reason people seek medical
help, ranging from acute to chronic conditions. Poor knowledge of pain management and
practice of nurses poses a significant challenge to the healthcare system and patient outcome
and satisfaction. The practice of pain management varies among nurses based on institutional
protocols, training, and available resources. It aims to evaluate the knowledge and practices
of nurses in managing post-surgical pain,
Methods: A cross-sectional study design was conducted at AaBET from March up to May,
2025. Data was collected through questionnaire and entered into SPSS version 23 for
analysis. Summary statistics like mean, frequency, standard deviations and others used to
summarize the data and the data was presented using tables, graphs and texts.
Results: A total of 117 participants were recruited for the study. The finding of this study
revealed that 9.4% of nurses’ have poor knowledge towards POPM for surgical patient. The
majority of study participants 84.6% of them believe that patient increases amount of
analgesics need is usually. The practice of pain management among nurses varies based on
institutional protocols, training, and available resources. Theo’s includes observation as
method of pain management provide direct nursing care to POP patients, use pain assessment
tool of use of pain score.
Conclusions:The present study was aiming at assessing the knowledge, and practices POPM
among Nurses at Aabet Hospital. The overall results show that nurses have good knowledge
related to drugs used in pain management. The study found that the practices of nurses
related to POPM pain are at low level.
