Abstract Introduction: Immediate post-partum intrauterine contraceptive device is inserted intra uterine device immediately following the delivery of placenta to 48 hrs. of vaginal or cesarean of delivery. Postpartum unintended pregnancy is an important public health challenge in Ethiopia. There is paucity of studies conducted on utilization of post-partum intra uterine contraceptive devices in low resource setting and it is an emerging services. Objective: Assessment of immediate postpartum intra uterine device utilization and its associated factor among mothers who gave birth in selected public hospital, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 2023 Methods: Institution based cross sectional study design was conducted to assess the immediate postpartum intra uterine device utilization and its associated factors. Interviewee administered data collection method was deployed. Data were entered in to epi-data version 4.2 and analysis was performed by using SPSS version 24. To assess the relationship between each independent variables and dependent variable bivariate and multivariable logistic regression analysis was used. The adjusted odd ratio used to measure the strength of association at 95% Cl, and if p < 0.05, statistical significance was declared. Texts, tables, graphs and charts used in representation of the research findings. Result: In this study, the response rate was 95.1% (n= 309). The level of immediate post-partum intrauterine contraceptive device (IPPIUCD) was (17.79 %) [95% CI: 13.59, 22.01]. Age group of 27 – 29 years [AOR = 7.9, 95% CI : (1.9, 33.2)], age group of ≥ 30 [AOR = 6.6 , 95% CI : (1.3, 33.4)], husband support [AOR = 4.07, 95% CI: (1.60, 10.32)], counseling on PPIUCD [AOR = 3.91, 95% CI: (1.63, 9.36)], and favorable attitude [AOR=8.14, 95% CI: (3.06, 21.49)] were factors significantly associated with utilization of IPPIUCD. x Conclusion and Recommendation: IPPIUCD is relatively higher among women’s who gave birth in selected hospitals compared to other previous studies. Older age, husband support, counseling on PPIUCD, and positive attitude were significantly associated with IPPIUCD utilization. Therefore, creating a favorable attitude towards IPPIUCD, promoting husband support and consolidating counselling service on IPPIUCD in health care facilities could be useful strategies to increase the level of IPPIUCD utilization among women who gave birth in hospitals.
