dc.description.abstractAbstract Background: Electrical burns account for a small percentage of all burn injuries. However, In burn patients, they are a major source of disability, and can cause significant morbidity and Mortality Objectives: The primary aim of this study is to determine the prevalence and outcome of electrical burn at AaBET, Yakatit 12, and ALERT Hospitals Methods: This retrospective chart review study was conducted from January 2022 to December 2022, and systematic random sampling was used. And descriptive statistics and percentages were used for analysing our data. Data was entered and analysed using SPSS version 25. Descriptive analysis was used for statistical analysis and logistic regression was used to determine the association between dependent and independent variables tables and figures was used to describe the result. Multi-variable logistic regression was performed and variables having a P value < 0.05 were declared as statistically significant. Result: A total of 162 electrical burn patients chart was reviewed and analysed on three study areas in this study. Among 162 patient’s 144 (88.9%) patients are males and 18(11.1%) were females with a male to female ratio of 8:1. The age range of the patient was from 15 months to 75 years with a mean age of 38.73(SD 16.165) years. The upper extremity is the most affected body part and is involved in 85(52.5%) of followed by anterior trunk 27 (16.7%), the Lower extremity 26 (16.0%), posterior trunk 15 (9.3%), Head 5 (3.1%) and perineum 4 (2.5%). In multivariate analysis variables such as age >56 is 1.3 times more likely to cause death, AOR: 1.3(95%CI: 0.2, 2.43), delayed presentation to hospital >24 hours is 2.01 times more likely to cause death, AOR: 2.01(95%CI: 0.21, 2.18), affected anatomical location, being injured on anterior trunk 1.3 times more likely to cause death, AOR: 1.3(95%CI: 0.01,12.18), depth of burn, full thickness/3rd degree burn was 4.3 times more likely to cause death, AOR: 4.3(95%CI: 0.96, 19.3),.
