Abstract

Executive summary This body of work summarizes the required field residency‘s outputs accomplished at field base during the two years residency that have stayed in Field Epidemiology Training Program, department of Public Health-SPHMMC and at Addis ketema sub city health office field base. This compiled body of works contains two years output that to be submitted to SPHMMC- department of public health for the final accomplishment of master degree in Field Epidemiology. This compiled body of works has six chapters which were completed during the residency time of the program. These are outbreak investigation (AWD outbreaks in Addis ketema sub city, Addis Ababa,2016), surveillance data analysis (magnitude and trend of three year typhoid fever in Addis ketema sub city from 2013-2015), evaluation of epidemic typhus surveillance system (in Addis Ketema sub city during June/2014), description of a health profile report (in woreda9 of Addis Ketema sub city, during March,2016), abstract submission for presentation in scientific conferences (outbreak investigation of Acute watery diarrhea and surveillance data analysis on epidemic typhus), writing proposal & final thesis which is entitled assessment of timing of first initiation ANC visit and associated factors among pregnant women who are attending public health facilities in Addis Ababa ,2017 and other out puts such as epidemiologic bulletine , abstracts and others. Chapter I- Outbreak investigations: this chapter illustrates about acute watery diarrhea outbreak investigation which was conducted in Addis Ketema sub city, October, 2016. The objective of this investigation was to verify the outbreak, asses the distribution and identify risk factors of the outbreak to implement control acute watery diarrhea. We used a descriptive analysis of the line list (Descriptive Epidemiology) followed by unmatched case-control study (Analytic Epidemiology) during investigations. Chapter II-Surveillance data analysis: This chapter Presents about report of surveillance Secondary data analysis conducted on typhoid fever in Addis ketema sub city sub city to describe by person, place and time since 2013 to 2015. We retrospectively analyzed .It shows the trend of typhoid fever cases in years, woredas and its morbidity and mortality as sub city level and health facilities level. Chapter III- Surveillance system evaluation: This chapter discussed about evaluation of surveillance system which was conducted on epidemic typhus in Addis ketema sub city, Addis Ababa from April 28 to May16, 2017. This study assessed the core function, supportive function and the surveillance attributes: simplicity, flexibility, acceptability, representativeness, timeliness, data quality, sensitivity, cost, predictive value positive and usefulness of the surveillance system were also assessed and presented in the chapter. Chapter IV- District health profile description: this chapter Describes assessment of Health Profile Description of Addis ketema Sub city, Addis Ababa City Administration. Health and health related data of the sub city populations were evidently presented which is helpful for prioritizing health related problems and implement strategies against the major health problems of the sub city. Chapter V- research : this Chapter Contain research project which was entitled as Assessment of timing of first Antenatal care visit and associated factors among pregnant mothers who are attending in public health facilities in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 2018. The study was conducted by using facility based cross sectional study design on pregnant mothers who attending in public health centers that currently giving antenatal care services as a study population. The findings of the study was share to all stakeholders for possible intervention or action. Chapter VI- other out puts: 6.1Abstracts for scientific conference: this chapter contains abstracts of AWD outbreak investigations and epidemic typhus surveillance system evaluation data was presented. 6.2. Public health emergency management weekly bulletin: this Chapter contains a report of Public Health Emergency weekly bulletins in Addis ketema sub city during in the residency period. Of many weekly bulletins I was prepared during the two years field base attachment, I was includes only two of them in this document.
