Abstract

Abstract Background: Acute Heart Failure is a syndromes manifest as new onset or recurrence of acute decompensated heart failure requiring emergency treatment and hospitalization. It is a major public health issue and its burden is growing in developing countries. Studies about outcome and associated factors of heart failure patient at emergency department is lacking in developing countries .Objectives-The objective of this study was to assess outcome and associated factor of Acute Heart Failure patients in Adult Emergency of Saint Paul hospital Millennium Medical College from September 01, 2022, to August 30, 2023. Methods-A cross-sectional study was conducted in Adult Emergency of Saint Paul hospital Millennium Medical College on patients presented with Acute Heart Failure from September 01, 2022 to August 30, 2023. A simple random sampling technique was used to the select eligible patient’s charts. Data was collected using structured questionnaire from patient’s chart and analyzed using SPSS version 25. Results-Patients were admitted to a medical ward in 47.2% of cases, while nearly half (48%) were discharged to their homes. 3.5% of patients required hospitalization to the intensive care unit.In 1.3% of patients with acute heart failure, a death was reported.Patient who had comorbidity and previous history of admission significantly associated with hospital admission. Conclusion- More than half of patients were admitted and nearly half of patient were discharged to their home from the emergency.Patient who had comorbidity and previous history of admission needs hospital admission.
