Abstract

ABSTRACT Introduction: The shortage of healthcare professionals in most countries is well documented; it has reached such an extent that some hospitals are offering bonuses to lure healthcare workers from other employers. The level of job satisfaction doesn’t only affect the service that is provided but also has a big impact on the worrisome brain drain. Health care professionals play the critical role in determining the efficiency, effectiveness and sustainability of health care systems. Objective: To assess factors influencing the level of job satisfaction among health care providers in Saint Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 2017 G.C. The study covered all health care professionals of all categories working in Saint Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College during the study period. Data was collected using pre-tested self-administered questionnaire. After data was collected, it was entered into a computer and analyzed using SPSS version 20.0 statistical software. Binary logistic regression with 95% CI at P ≤ 0.05 was used to determine factors associated to job satisfaction. Result: The result shows that 69.5% of health workers were dissatisfied with their job. Among sociodemographic characteristics level of job satisfaction was associated with gender, educational level. The major predicators of job satisfaction were opportunity to develop time pressure and patient care. Recommendations: SPHMMC should intervene include working on creating opportunity to develop, decreasing the time pressure and increasing the quality of patient care.
