dc.description.abstractAbstract Background; Despite the availability of highly effective methods of contraception, many pregnancies are unplanned and unwanted. These pregnancies carry a higher risk of morbidity and mortality, often due to unsafe abortion. Many of these unplanned pregnancies can be avoided using emergency contraception. Emergency contraception refers to type of contraception that is used as an emergency procedure to prevent unintended pregnancy following an unprotected act of sexual intercourse. Each year there are about 250 Million pregnancies globally and despite the presence of Emergency contraceptives one third of these are unintended and 20% of these undergo induced abortion. In Low income countries like Ethiopia, more than one third of the 182 million pregnancies are unintended. Objective: To assess knowledge, attitude and practice towards emergency contraceptive methods among female students in Bullen high school Bullen town, west Ethiopia. Methods: school based descriptive cross-sectional study will be conducted on 422 female students in Bullen high school Bullen town, west Ethiopia. From March to April. Study populations will be selected from different educational levels (9th to12th) using stratified random sampling technique. Self-administered questionnaire will be used to collect data. After data is collected, it will be entered into a computer and analyzed using SPSS version 21.0 statistical software and presented in texts, tables, charts and graphs.
