Abstract
Summary
Introduction: Workplace violence has been acknowledged as a global problem, particularly
in the health sector. However, there is scarce data which shows the magnitude of workplace
violence among nurses especially working in the emergency units of Addis Ababa public
hospitals, the aim of this study is to fill the gap regarding the paucity of evidence on magnitude
and associated factors of workplace violence among emergency nurses working at public
hospitals in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Objective: To assess the magnitude of workplace violence and associated factors among
emergency nurses working at public hospitals in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 2025.
Methods: A facility -based cross-sectional study was conducted on 243 randomly selected
nurses working at public hospitals in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from Nov 15, 2024 – Dec 25, 2024.
The Data was coded and entered using EPI-Data and exported to SPSS version 27 for further
analysis. Proportion, mean and standard deviation were used to describe the study variables. Bi
variable and Multivariable logistic regression were employed and in the Bi-variable analysis all
independent variables each at a time was checked for the presence of association and P value of
< 0.25 were used to make a variable candidate for multivariable logistic regression and those
variables, found to have p value of <0.25, was taken to multivariable analysis to control for the
effect of confounder. Finally independent variables with P <0.05 was declared for having a
statistically significant association with the dependent variable. Adjusted odds ratios with 95%
Confidence Interval (CI) were computed to determine the presence and strength of the
association.
Time Frame: The study was conducted from Nov 15 – Dec 15, 2024.
Estimated Budget: The estimated budget of the study was 25,980 ETH, Birr
